The Argentine national volleyball team is a selection of the best Argentine players who represent them at international tournaments and internationals. The Argentines have taken part in six world championships so far and qualified for the Olympic Games for the second time in a row in 2020. In South America they are the third best team, but they have never won the continental championship.

history

World Championship

The Argentine women finished eighth in their first participation in a volleyball world championship in 1960. At the 1982 World Cup , they did not get past 18th place. They finished the 1990 tournament in 15th and penultimate place. In 2002 in Germany they were eliminated in the first round and finished 17th. The same result came in 2014 . Most recently it was 19th place at the 2018 World Cup .

Olympic games

The Argentinians took part in the Olympic Games for the first time in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. There they were eliminated with a win in the preliminary round. As winners of the South American qualifying tournament , they also secured a starting place for Tokyo 2020 .

South America Championship

At the first South American championship , the Argentine women finished fourth in 1951 and fifth in 1958. Then they reached third place three times in a row, most recently in 1964 in their own country. After missing the 1967 tournament, they finished fifth and twice sixth. From 1975 to 1983 they won five more bronze medals. The missed tournament in 1985 was followed by two fourth places and a third place in between. In 1993 they were absent from the championship for the last time before they won two more bronze medals. They then reached the final against Brazil three times . At the 2007 tournament it was only enough for fifth place. from 2009 to 2013 there were three more final defeats against Brazil. In the tournaments in 2015, 2017 and 2019, Argentina missed the medal ranks as fourth-placed.

World cup

At the premiere of the World Cup in 1973, the Argentines finished eighth. After a long break, they took part in 1999 and, like four years later, finished eleventh. In 2011 they finished tenth and at the 2015 tournament they improved to eighth place. In 2019 they again took tenth place.

Nations League

In the first edition of the Nations League 2018 , Argentina finished last with a victory. During the tournament in 2019 they were not involved.

World Grand Prix

The Argentines took part in the World Grand Prix for the first time in 2011 and achieved their best result with 14th place. Over the next three years they deteriorated one place at a time. In the last editions of the competition from 2015 to 2017, they did not get beyond 17th place.
