In 1967 the Peruvians finished last with only four participants and in 1970 it was only 15th. After ranks eight and ten, they celebrated the greatest success in their own country in 1982 when they were only defeated in the final against China . In addition, the Peruvian juniors, who finished last, played at these world championships. Four years later, Peru was also successful in third place. Then it went down sixth to 13th in 1994. At the 1998 tournament, things went a little better in ninth place, in 2002 Peru was missing. At the 2006 World Cup , the Peruvians did not get past 20th place.

Olympic games

Peru narrowly missed a medal in Mexico in 1968, finishing fourth. After finishing seventh ( 1976 ) and sixth ( 1980 ), the Peruvian women repeated this success, which they were able to increase four years later. At the 1988 Games they reached the final against the Soviet Union and won the silver medal. In 1996 and 2000 , however, they did not get past eleventh place.

South American Championship

After two third places in 1951 and 1956, Peru reached the final against Brazil for the first time in 1958 . There the Peruvians lost as well as in 1961 (in their own country) and 1962. Two years later they won their first continental title against Paraguay , which they defended in 1967 against hosts Brazil. In 1969 the Brazilians took revenge, but then Peru triumphed five times in a row. After losing the final in Brazil in 1981, they were successful four more times from 1983 to 1989. From 1991 to 1995, the host won the eternal duel. In 1997 Peru had to give way to its rival in front of its own audience. After finishing third, the Peruvians were missing the title fights for the first time in 2001. In 2003 they returned to third place; In 2005 and 2007 there were two more final defeats against Brazil.

World cup

When Peru took part in the World Cup for the first time in 1973, fourth place achieved the best result. After that, they finished fifth four times before they were only tenth in 1995 and 1999. They finished the 2007 tournament in eleventh place.
