The Argentine national volleyball team for men is a selection of the best Argentine players who represent them in international tournaments and internationals. The Argentines finished third in the World Cup and Olympic Games in the 1980s. After Brazil, they are the second most successful team in South America.
history
World Championship
At the volleyball world championship in 1960, the Argentines were there for the first time and finished eleventh. In 1978 they participated again and came in 22nd place. In 1982, as the host, they won the third place match against Japan . At the tournaments in 1986 and 1990, they also came in seventh and sixth in the top 10. The next two world championships went worse with places 13 and 11. In 2002 the Argentinians finished sixth again with a home advantage. At the 2006 World Cup, they were eliminated in the second group stage. In 2010 they entered the third round. The 2014 tournament ended for her again in the second round. This result was also achieved at the 2018 World Cup .
Olympic games
Argentina was first represented at the Olympic tournament in 1984 and reached sixth place. Four years later, winning the bronze medal at the Games in Seoul was her greatest success to date. In 1996 the Argentines came in eighth place. In 2000 in Sydney they lost in the bronze game against Italy . Against the same opponent, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals in Athens in 2004 . They did not qualify for Beijing 2008 . In 2012 in London they lost the South American quarter-finals against Brazil . 2016 in Rio de Janeiro there was the duel again with the better end for the hosts. At an international qualifying tournament in Ningbo , the Argentines secured their starting place for Tokyo 2020
South American Championship
At the first South American volleyball championship in 1951 and at the 1958 tournament, the Argentines took fourth place. In 1961 they took third place. A year later they were only defeated in the final against Brazil. In 1964 they won their only title at the continental championship as hosts in the final against Venezuela . After a missed tournament, they finished fifth in 1969. In 1971 they were third again and two years later they lost the next final against Brazil. Two third places followed before the Argentinians did not get past fifth at home in 1979. After third place in 1985, the duel between the permanent rivals was repeated five times in a row, with Argentina losing all of the finals. Interrupted by two third places in 1997 and 2003, this series continued until 2015. In 2017 the Argentinians came third again. In 2019 they lost again in the final against Brazil.
World cup
When they first competed in the World Cup in 1985 , the Argentines finished fifth. Ten years later they finished seventh and in 1999 they finished the tournament in ninth place. At the tournaments in 2007 and 2011 , they again took seventh place. In 2015 , they finished fifth. They repeated the result at the World Cup 2019 .
Nations League
In the first edition of the Nations League 2018 , the Argentines came in 14th place. At the 2019 tournament , they just barely missed the final round as seventh overall.

In the first three appearances in the world league , Argentina deteriorated from seventh place in 1996 to ninth place in 1998. Then they were sixth and eighth, before they did not get past 13th place in 2001. In 2002 they reached ninth place. After a two-year break, they took tenth, seventh and thirteenth place from 2005 to 2007. They had their best phase in this competition from 2009 to 2011 when they came fifth and fourth. After tenth place in 2012 and sixth place in 2013, the results in the last four editions of the world league were again in double digits.
