The Venezuelan men's volleyball team is a selection of the best Venezuelan players who represent the Federación Venezolana de Voleibol at international tournaments and internationals. The Venezuelans took part in several world championships without reaching any front positions. In 2020 they qualified for the second time for the Olympic Games. In South America they are the third best team behind Brazil and Argentina.

history

World Championship

Venezuela was at the 1960 World Cup for the first time and was tenth. In the tournaments from 1970 to 1982 there were placements between 23 and 19. 1986 and 1990 the Venezuelans finished 16th and were last. In 2002 and 2006 they came in 17th place. They were also eliminated in the preliminary round at the 2014 and 2018 World Championships .

Olympic games

In 2008 in Beijing the Venezuelans took part in the Olympic tournament for the first time. In the preliminary round, they only won against Japan and finished ninth. As winners of the South American qualification tournament in Santiago de Chile , they secured their starting place for Tokyo 2020 .

South American Championship

The Venezuelans first took part in the South American volleyball championship in 1962 and finished third. In the following two tournaments, they were only defeated by their hosts Argentina and Brazil in the final. When the tournament first took place in their own country in 1969, they also lost in the final against Brazil. After missing the 1971 tournament, they returned to third place in 1973. From 1975 to 1979 followed three defeats in the final against Brazil. Then the Venezuelans came fourth twice. In 1985 they hosted for the second time and again reached the final against Brazil. Then they came third three times, fourth in 1993 and third again two years later. At the third championship in Venezuela, the hosts lost to Brazil for the third time in 1997. After two third places, there was the next final defeat in 2003 against the long-term rivals. After finishing third four times, the Venezuelans were absent from the 2013 tournament. Two years later, they finished fourth. In 2017 they were again in the final against Brazil. They finished the 2019 championship in fourth place.

World cup

Venezuela reached eighth place when it first participated in the 2003 World Cup . In 2015 the team played again and came eleventh.

Nations League

Venezuela was not involved in the previous two editions of the Volleyball Nations League in 2018 and 2019.

World league

In the world league , the Venezuelans took 13th place from 2001 to 2003. In 2005 they finished seventh. In 2008 and 2009 there was again a 13th place. In the last three editions of the competition, the Venezuelans were represented in the third division.
