Agata Danuta Mróz-Olszewska (born April 7, 1982 in Dąbrowa Tarnowska , † June 4, 2008 in Wroclaw ) was a Polish volleyball player .

Life

The 191 cm tall middle blocker was initially active for her home club Tarnovia Tarnów . After an engagement in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski , she played between 2003 and 2006 for the Polish top team BKS Stal Bielsko-Biała , with whom she became Polish champion in 2003 and 2004. In 2006 she moved to the Spanish club CAV Murcia in 2005 , with which she also won the championship and the Spanish Cup straight away in 2007.

With the Polish national volleyball team , she was European champion in 2003 and 2005 .

Since the age of 17 Agata Mróz suffered from myelodysplastic syndrome . When her health deteriorated in 2007, she and her husband, Jacek Olszewski, informed the public about their illness. In the same year she ended her sporting career.

On May 22, 2008, Agata Mróz-Olszewska successfully underwent a bone marrow transplant in Wroclaw . However, on June 4, 2008, she died of sepsis . She left behind her husband and daughter Liliana, who was born on April 4, 2008, two months before her death.

The Polish President Lech Kaczyński awarded Agata Mróz-Olszewska posthumously the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta , the second highest civil award in the country.
