history

World championships

At the first volleyball world championship in 1952, the Polish women celebrated their greatest success to date, when they were only beaten in the final by the host Soviet Union . In the next three tournaments there were two third places and one fourth place. After the missed World Cup in 1967, there were significantly worse placements in the 1970s with ninth and eleven places. After a long break Poland returned in 2002 , but did not get past 13th place. At the 2006 World Cup , the Polish women failed in the second round. They finished ninth at the 2010 World Cup .

Olympic games

Poland won bronze in the first two tournaments in 1964 and 1968 and was no longer there. In 2008 in Beijing the Polish women managed only one victory against Venezuela ; so they were eliminated after the preliminary round and finished ninth.

European championships

At the first eight European volleyball championships from 1949 to 1971, Poland was always among the top three teams. In 1949, 1955, 1958 and 1971 the Polish women took third place; In 1950, 1951, 1963 and 1967 they lost the final against the Soviet Union. After that, the results gradually got worse. In the 1980s and 1990s, Poland was mostly ninth. In 1993 the Polish women missed their only European Championship tournament to date. From the end of the 1990s, things picked up again. In 2003 , Poland became European champions for the first time with a final victory against hosts Turkey. Two years later they defended their title against Italy. Poland finished fourth at the 2007 European Championship . In 2009 they won the bronze medal and at the 2011 European Championships Poland came fifth.

World cup

Poland took part in the World Cup for the first time in 2003 and finished eighth. In 2007 it was sixth.

World Grand Prix

In 2004, when they first took part in the World Grand Prix , the Polish women finished eighth. A year later they rose by one rank and after the setback in 2006 (twelfth place) they reached sixth place in 2007. They finished tenth in 2008, seventh in 2009, sixth in 2010 and tenth in 2011.
