The Hungarian national women's volleyball team is a selection of the best Hungarian female players who represent the Magyar Röplabda Szövetség association at international tournaments and matches.

history

World Championship

In the first volleyball world championship , Hungary finished sixth. Ten years later it was only enough for eleventh place. In 1970 the Hungarians narrowly missed the medal ranks and in 1974 they were sixth again. In the next two tournaments they did not get past 13th and 10th place.

Olympic games

In 1972 in Munich , Hungary took part in the Olympic tournament for the first time and came in fifth. At the 1976 and 1980 games , the Hungarian women came fourth even closer to a medal.

European Championship

In their first four appearances in a European volleyball championship , the Hungarian women finished sixth. However, there were only seven or six teams in the first three tournaments, while in 1958 it was the sixth of twelve places. From 1963 to 1971 there were similar results with ranks seven and five. In 1975 Hungary reached the final against the Soviet Union and two years later the Hungarians came third behind the Soviet women and the GDR . After a fourth place in 1979 there were two further third places in 1981 and 1983. The next two tournaments Hungary finished ninth and tenth. After a break of 28 years, the Hungarian women were able to qualify again in 2015 and finished in twelfth place.

World cup

In 1977 Hungary played in the World Cup for the only time so far and finished sixth.

World Grand Prix

Hungary never took part in the World Grand Prix .

European League

Hungary has played in the Europa League since 2011 and won in 2015 .
