The Czechoslovak national women's volleyball team was a selection of the best Czechoslovak women players who represented the national federation in international tournaments and internationals. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the national teams of the Czech Republic and Slovakia were separated .
history
World Championship
At the first World Cup in 1952 , the Czechoslovak women finished third. After finishing fourth in 1956 , they repeated this success in the 1960 . Two years later they finished sixth. They missed the 1967 tournament. After that, they came in fifth in 1970. In 1974 they were eliminated without a win in the preliminary round. At the 1978 World Cup they lost in the second group stage. In 1982 they were missing again. They hosted the 1986 World Cup, but did not get past eleventh place. In 1990 they weren't there.
Olympic games
The Czechoslovak women first took part in the Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968. They won three games and finished sixth. In 1972 in Munich they lost their three preliminary round games, but won the game for seventh place against the hosts. They then no longer qualified for the Olympic tournaments.
European Championship
At the first eight European volleyball championships , the Czechoslovak women came into the medal ranks. The first EM took place in Czechoslovakia in 1949 and the hosts reached the final against the Soviet Union . The next year there was a third place. In 1951 the Czechoslovak women were absent. In 1955 they won their first continental title in the final against the Soviet Union. At the EM in 1958 they were again subject to permanent rivals in their own country. In 1963 they came in sixth place and four years later they came third. The third defeat in the final against the Soviet Union followed in 1971 . After that there were two fifth places. From 1979 to 1983 the Czechoslovakians came in seventh, sixth and eighth. In 1985 they rose to fourth place. At the European Championship in 1987 , they defeated Bulgaria in the game for third place and thus won their last medal. In 1989 they won the game for fifth place against the German selection . In 1991 they finished fifth again with a win against Romania . At their last European Championship appearance in 1993 , the Czechoslovakians reached the final as hosts, which they lost to Russia .
