The Serbian national volleyball team is a selection of the best Serbian players who represent the Serbian Volleyball Association (Odbojkaški Savez Srbije) at international tournaments and internationals. It is the successor to the Yugoslav national team , which played until 1993, and the Serbian-Montenegrin national team , which represented the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1993 to 2003 and then Serbia and Montenegro from 2003 to 2006 . Kosovo has had its own national team since 2016 .
history
World championships
The Serbs won the game for third place against Italy in 2010 when they first participated in a world championship after becoming self-employed . In 2014 they were eliminated in the second group stage and finished ninth. At the 2018 World Cup, they lost the game for third place against the USA .
Olympic games
In 2008 in Beijing , Serbia took part in the Olympic tournament independently for the first time and was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the USA. In 2012 in London the end came in the preliminary round. In 2016 the Serbs weren't there. They did not prevail in the 2020 qualification either.
European championships
In the 2007 European Championships , the Serbs took part for the first time after independence and were greeted with a victory against Finland third. In 2009 they came in fifth place. In 2011 they won the title for the first time with a final victory against Italy. Two years later they came back to third place. In 2015 they achieved their worst result to date with seventh place. With a win against Belgium they secured third place again in 2017 . At the 2019 tournament , they became European champions for the second time in the final against Slovenia .
World cup
Serbia finished eighth in the 2011 World Cup .
Nations League
In the Nations League 2018 , the Serbs reached the final round, in which they lost both games. During the tournament in 2019 they were eleventh.
World league
In 2007, the Serbs did not get past ninth place in the World League . In 2008, however, they were only defeated in the final against the USA. The following year they lost the final against Brazil. In 2010 they came third. They then finished ninth three times and seventh once. In 2015 they were in the final again and had to admit defeat to France . A year later they won the title against Brazil. They finished fifth in the last edition of the competition in 2017.
