Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski ( pronunciation : [ ɔsˈtrɔvʲɛt͡s ɕfʲɛntɔˈkʂɨskʲi ]) is a medium- sized town in Poland in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship . The city used to live mainly from the steel industry , but its importance has declined significantly.
The city is the seat of the neighboring rural municipality Bodzechów , but does not belong to this.
history
The first mention of a settlement on the site of today's Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski comes from the 14th century. In 1624 the place received city rights. In 1826 the first sugar factory on Polish territory opened in Ostrowiec . In 1919 the city became the seat of a powiat . During an administrative reform in 1975 , the city lost this status and became part of the Kielce Voivodeship . When it was reformed again in 1999, it again became the seat of the Powiat Ostrowiecki and part of the Heiligkreuz Voivodeship.
