Zbigniew Pacelt (born August 26, 1951 in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski ) is a Polish politician of the Platforma Obywatelska ( Civic Platform ) and a former pentathlon and swimmer .

In 1969 Pacelt received his Matura and began studying at the “Józef Piłsudski” sports college in Warsaw . He graduated with a master's degree in 1975 . He began his sports career at the KSZO Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski club as a swimmer. From 1960 to 1972 he was with AZS Warszawa and then with Lotnik and Legia Warsaw until 1980 . He won several Polish championships in swimming medley and set several Polish records in freestyle and medley. Zbigniew Pacelt was part of the Polish delegation at the 1968 Summer Olympics and 1972 Summer Olympics in swimming and 1976 in pentathlon. After the 1976 Summer Games, he ended his career as an athlete and started as a coach. As this he was able to win two gold medals with the Polish team at the 1992 Summer Olympics . In 1994 he became the director of competitive sports in the Department of Physical Culture and Sport . From 2001 to the dissolution of the authority in June 2002 he was deputy chairman of the office for physical culture and sport. Then Pacelt was vice chairman of the Polish Sports Federation from 2003 to 2005 . In the 2005 parliamentary elections , he won a seat in the Sejm with 8,455 votes and became Deputy Minister for Sports and Tourism. He was able to defend this seat in the early elections in 2007 and was again Deputy Minister of Sport from November 26, 2007 to November 21, 2008.

Zbigniew Pacelt is married and has one daughter.

Awards

Zbigniew Pacelt is an honorary citizen of his birthplace Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski , received the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland and is an officer of the Polonia Restituta Order .
