from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV) (Portuguese: Confederação Sulamericana de Voleibol ) is the South American umbrella organization for volleyball . The headquarters are in Rio de Janeiro ( Brazil ).

history

The exact origins of CSV are disputed. It was founded either on February 12, 1946 in Buenos Aires ( Argentina ) or on July 3 of the same year in Rio de Janeiro. In any case, the CSV was created before the FIVB , making it the oldest continental association. The previous eight presidents came from Brazil, Peru , Argentina and Colombia . After the election of the current president, the Brazilian Ary Graça Filho , the headquarters of the CSV were relocated from Lima (Peru) to Rio de Janeiro in 2003.

profile

The CSV is superordinate to the national associations and organizes continental competitions such as the South American Championship, which took place for the first time in 1951. The association is also involved in the organization of qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Games and World Championships, as well as in international competitions organized by member associations.
