Kim Won-jin (born May 1, 1992 in Gangwon-do Province ) is a South Korean judoka . In 2013 and 2015 he was third in the world championship in the super light weight category up to 60 kilograms.

Athletic career

Kim won the 2009 U20 Asian Championships in the weight class up to 55 kilograms, since then the 1.68 m tall judoka has been fighting in the weight class up to 60 kilograms. In 2011 he won the Universiade in Shenzhen . A week later, Kim fought at the World Championships in Paris . There he defeated the Russian Arsen Galstjan in the quarterfinals . Then he was defeated in the semifinals to the Uzbek Rishod Sobirov and in the battle for bronze to the Ukrainian Heorhij Santaraja . In 2012 he reached the final at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris and then lost to Rishod Sobirov. In May he fought at the East Asian Games in Gochang and lost in the final to his compatriot Jang Jin-min .

In 2013 Kim reached the final at the Asian Championships in Bangkok and then lost to the Japanese Hirofumi Yamamoto . At the Universiade in Kazan , he won bronze in the individual standings and silver with the team. He also won bronze at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro . After his quarter-final victory against the Azerbaijani Orxan Səfərov, he lost to the Japanese Naohisa Takato in the semifinals . In the battle for bronze he defeated the Mongolian Ganbatyn Boldbaatar . A month and a half later, he won the East Asian Games in Tianjin. In November 2013 he reached the final at the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo and lost to Naohisa Takato.

In 2014 he lost to the Japanese Toru Shishime in the quarter-finals of the Asian Games in Incheon , but won a bronze medal with a victory over the Taiwanese Ming Yen Tsai . At the end of 2014, Kim won the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo by defeating Toru Shishime. In 2015 he won the Asian Championships in Kuwait. Two months later he won the Universiade in Gwangju . At the end of August at the World Championships in Astana, he lost to Toru Shishime in the quarter-finals. Kim won a bronze medal with victories in the hope round against the Uzbeks Diyorbek Oʻrozboyev and Ganbatyn Boldbaatar. The following year he finished seventh at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after losing to the Russians Beslan Mudranow and Naohisa Takato .

After a two-year break, Kim returned in late 2018 with a third place at the Grand Slam tournament in Osaka . In 2019 he won the World Military Games in Wuhan and again took third place in Osaka.
