An Chang-rim (born March 2, 1994 in Kyōto , Japan ) is a South Korean judoka . He was world champion 2018 in the lightweight, the weight class up to 73 kilograms.

Athletic career

The Japanese-born South Korean was the 2014 U21 world champion. In 2015 he won the Asian Championships in Kuwait and the Universiade in Gwangju . At the World Championships in Astana , he defeated the Mongols Saindschargalyn Njam-Otschir in the quarter-finals , in the semifinals he was defeated by the Japanese Shōhei Ōno . By defeating the second Mongolian Ganbaataryn Odbajar , An secured a bronze medal. In early 2016, he won the Grand Slam tournament in Paris. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he won his first fight against the Syrian Mohamed Kasem by Ippon, in the second fight he was eliminated against the Belgian Dirk Van Tichelt .

In 2017 An won the Asian Championships in Hong Kong by beating Ganbaataryn Odbajar in the final. At the World Championships in Budapest he defeated Odbajar in the quarterfinals, but lost to Rustam Orujov from Azerbaijan in the semifinals . With a victory over the Georgian Lascha Schawdatuaschwili, An won a bronze medal. At the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 , he defeated the Iranian Mohammad Mohammadi in the semi-finals, in the final he was defeated by Shōhei Ōno. Three weeks after the Asian Games, the 2018 World Championships took place in Baku . In the semifinals he again defeated the Iranian Mohammadi, in the final he won against the Japanese Soichi Hashimoto .
