Shōhei Ōno ( Japanese 大野 将 平 , Ōno Shōhei ; born February 3, 1992 in Yamaguchi ) is a Japanese judoka . He was Olympic champion and three times world champion in lightweight.

Career

The 1.70 m tall Shōhei Ōno won the 2011 Junior World Championships. In 2012 he finished second behind the South Korean Wang Ki-chun at the Asian Championships . At the All-Japanese Championships in 2012 he lost to Riki Nakaya , who then also competed at the Olympic Games in 2012 and won the silver medal. The 2013 World Championships took place in Rio de Janeiro, Ōno defeated the Belgian Dirk Van Tichelt in the semifinals and the French Ugo Legrand in the final . The Japanese team won bronze in the team competition in Rio de Janeiro, and the Japanese team won in 2014. In Astana at the 2015 World Championships , Ōno won his second title in the individual by beating Riki Nakaya in the final, and the Japanese men's team also won gold. After a year off, Shōhei Ōno returned to the judo mat in 2018 and won the Grand Slam tournament in Düsseldorf . At the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 , he won the final over South Korean An Chang-rim . In 2018 he won the Grand Slam tournament in Osaka, and in 2019 that in Düsseldorf. At the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo , he won the final against Rustam Orujov.
