Riki Nakaya

Riki Nakaya ( Japanese 中 矢 力 , Nakaya Riki ; born July 25, 1989 in Matsuyama ) is a Japanese judoka . He was second in the Olympics and twice world champion in the lightweight, the weight class up to 73 kilograms.

Career

The 1.68 m tall Riki Nakaya was second in the U20 Asian Championships in 2007, and in 2008 he won a bronze medal at the U20 World Championships. In 2010 he won the title at the World Team Championships with the Japanese men's team. At the end of 2010 he won a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in Tokyo, followed by the Paris tournament in early 2011. At the Asian Championships 2011 he was defeated in the final to the South Korean Wang Ki-chun . The World Championships took place in Paris in 2011, Nakaya defeated his compatriot Hiroyuki Akimoto in the semifinals and won the final against the Dutchman Dex Elmont .

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Nakaya won in the semifinals against Dex Elmont, in the final he was defeated by the Russian Mansur Isayev . In 2013, Nakaya finished seventh at the World Championships . A year later at the World Championships in Chelyabinsk he defeated Victor Scvortov , who started for the United Arab Emirates, in the semifinals , and in the final he defeated the North Korean Hong Kuk-hyon . Riki Nakaya also reached the final at the 2015 World Championships in Astana , defeating Hong Kuk-hyon in the semifinals. He lost the final against his compatriot Shōhei Ōno . In addition to his individual successes, Nakaya was team world champion with the Japanese men's team in 2014, 2015 and 2017.
