Dex Elmont

Daxenos "Dex" Richard René Elmont (born January 10, 1984 in Rotterdam ) is a former Dutch judoka . In 2014 he was the European lightweight champion in the weight class up to 73 kg.

Career

Dex Elmont began his career in the half-light weight class, up to 66 kilograms. At the U20 European Championships in 2002 he won a bronze medal, in 2003 he won the title. In 2005 he took part in the World Championships in the adult class for the first time and finished in seventh place. In 2005 and 2006 he was the Dutch lightweight champion. At the European Championships in 2007 and 2008 , he finished fifth. His first Olympic tournament in Beijing in 2008 was not very successful when he was eliminated from the United States in his second fight against Taylor Takata .

At the end of 2008 he won the Dutch lightweight championship, his new weight class. Two more titles followed in 2009 and 2010. At the European Championships in Tbilisi in 2009 , he won silver behind the Ukrainian Volodymyr Soroka . In 2010 at the World Championships in Tokyo he defeated the Mongol Saindschargalyn Njam-Otschir in the semifinals , and in the final he was defeated by the Japanese Hiroyuki Akimoto . In 2011 he finished seventh at the European Championships in Istanbul . At the World Championships in Paris he won the semifinals against the French Ugo Legrand , he lost the final against the Japanese Riki Nakaya . In the 2012 Olympic year he won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Chelyabinsk . At the Olympic tournament in London he defeated Ugo Legrand in the quarterfinals. After his semi-final defeat by Riki Nakaya, he lost to the Mongol Saindschargalyn Njam-Otschir in the battle for bronze. Elmont took fifth place.

In 2013 Dex Elmont won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro . After losing to the Japanese Shōhei Ōno in the quarterfinals , he won the medal in the hope round with victories over the Slovenian Rok Drakšič and the Mongols Saindschargalyn Njam-Otschir. Dex Elmont won his only international title at the European Championships in Montpellier by beating Ugo Legrand in the final. In 2015, he finished fifth at the European Championships held as part of the European Games . In his third Olympic participation in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro , he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Hungarian Miklós Ungvári .

In 2016 Dex Elmont retired from competitive sports and concentrated on his medical profession. Dex Elmont is the son of the Surinamese Olympian Ricardo Elmont and the brother of Guillaume Elmont .
