Marc Alexandre

Marc Robert Alexandre (born October 30, 1959 in Paris ) is a former French judoka . He was Olympic champion in 1988 and European champion in 1984.

Until 1986 Alexandre competed mostly in the half-light weight up to 65 kg, from 1987 to 1989 he started in the light weight up to 71 kg.

The 1.70 m tall judoka was military world champion and European team champion in 1982. In 1984 he won his first French championship. At the European Championships in Liege in 1984 he won his four fights, the last in the final against Jaroslaw Kříž from Czechoslovakia. Three months after the European Championships, Alexandre entered the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . After three wins, he was defeated in the semifinals to the eventual Olympic champion Yoshiyuki Matsuoka from Japan. In the battle for bronze, Alexandre won against the British Stephen Gawthorpe . At the end of 1984 Alexandre won the European Team Championships with the French team. 1985 Alexandre won again at the French championships. At the European Championships in Hamar , Alexandre met in the final on the Romanian Cornel-Ilie Serban , who won this fight. In November 1985, the Soviet team won the European Team Championships ahead of France. At the European Championships in 1986 Marc Alexandre lost in the quarter-finals against Andreas Paluschek from the GDR, the French won the battle for bronze against the Belgian Philip Laats .

In autumn 1986 the French team won the European team championships, here Marc Alexandre already competed in the lightweight. In 1987 the Soviet team won again over the French. At the 1987 World Championships in Essen , Marc Alexandre reached the final with four wins, including beating the two Germans Sven Loll from the GDR and Steffen Stranz from the FRG. The final was won by Mike Swain from the USA against the French. In September 1988 Alexandre won the semifinals at the Olympic Games in Seoul against Giorgi Tenadze from the Soviet Union; in the final he defeated Sven Loll. One month after the Olympics, Alexandre won the European Team Championships for the fourth time. In 1989 at the European Championships in Helsinki he was defeated by the Hungarian Bertalan Hajtós in the semifinals, but won the battle for bronze against Alparslan Ayan from Turkey. Alexandre's last major tournament was the World Judo Championships in 1989 , in the battle for bronze he lost to Giorgi Tenadze.
