Ele Opeloge (born July 11, 1985 in Vaoala ) is a Samoan weightlifter . Her greatest international success was a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics .
Career
Ele Opeloge is one of five siblings who compete internationally for Samoa as weightlifters. She took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics as the flag bearer of her country , where she was able to achieve fourth place in the 75 kg and above category with a personal best of 269 kg. In August 2016, during a large-scale follow-up examination of the athletes from 2008, it was found that the previous silver and bronze winners, the Ukrainian Olha Korobka and the Kazakh Marija Grabowezkaja, had achieved their successes by means of doping . As a result, both were disqualified and their medals were redistributed. Ele Opeloge received silver and became the first medalist in her home country.
At the 2007 World Championships she was eleventh with 250 kg. Ele Opeloge won two gold medals at the Oceania Championships in 2007 and 2008 and the silver medal in 2006. In 2010, she won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi , increasing her personal best to 285 kg (125 kg + 160 kg), and in 2012 she finished 6th. Place at the Olympic Games in London.
