Ricardo Blas junior (born October 19, 1986 in Tamuning , Guam) is a heavyweight judoka from Guam . With a body weight of over 210 kilograms, he is considered to be the heaviest athlete who has ever participated in the Olympic Games .

Career

Blas' father of the same name Ricardo Blas senior (* 1954) participated as a judoka in the 1988 Summer Olympics and is currently President of the National Olympic Committee of Guam. Blas junior also began judo at the instigation of his father at the age of five. He first represented the island at the 2008 Summer Olympics and was Guam's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. With a body mass of 210.6 kilograms and a height of 183 cm, he attracted attention as the heaviest athlete of the games. On August 15, 2008, however , he lost to the Georgian Lasha Gujejiani , who was about 75 kilograms lighter, in the first round , and in the hope round he was eliminated by the American Daniel McCormick . He lost both fights not because of physical inferiority, but by four warnings ( Shido ) each for passivity.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics he was again the standard bearer of Guams; his combat weight was now 218 kg. This time he managed to win his opening fight against Facinet Keita from Guinea on August 3, 2012 and move into the round of 16 in the weight class over 100 kg, where the Cuban Óscar Brayson defeated him by Ippon .
