Mārtiņš Pļaviņš (born May 8, 1985 in Riga ) is a Latvian beach volleyball player .

Career

Pļaviņš was 2004 U20 European Champion and won both the U23 European Championship and the U21 World Championship the following year. With his partner Aleksandrs Samoilovs he played at the 2007 World Cup in Gstaad and was eliminated after three 1: 2 defeats in the preliminary round. In 2008 in Beijing , Pļaviņš / Samoilovs defeated the reigning world champions Rogers / Dalhausser in the first group game of the Olympic tournament and made it into the round of 16, where they had to admit defeat to the Austrians Gosch / Horst . They then parted ways.

After a few tournaments with Toms Šmēdiņš , Pļaviņš formed a new duo with his brother Jānis Šmēdiņš in 2009 . At the 2010 European Championships in Berlin , the Latvians won the bronze medal. In Marseille they were only defeated by the Chinese Wu / Xu in the final of the Open tournament . At the 2011 World Cup they lost the game for third place after three sets against the German defending champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann . At the 2012 Summer Olympics , Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Jānis Šmēdiņš won the bronze medal in three sets against the Dutch Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil .

In 2013 Pļaviņš formed a new duo with Jānis Pēda . Pļaviņš / Pēda played five Grand Slams after the Fuzhou Open and achieved a 17th place in Shanghai as their best result . Also at the 2013 World Cup in Stare Jabłonki they finished 17th. From the end of 2013 to the end of 2014, Pļaviņš played together with Aleksandrs Solovejs . Pļaviņš / Solovejs won the Anapa Open in Russia in 2014 . In 2015, Pļaviņš played alongside Hermans Egleskalns by default . With Haralds Regža , Pļaviņš won the gold medal at the 2015 European Games . From August 2015 to August 2017, Regža was its standard partner. Pļaviņš / Regža increasingly focused on the FIVB World Tour and had numerous top ten placements.

Edgars Točs has been Pļavi'š 'new partner since 2018 . Pļaviņš / Točs had numerous top ten placements on the 2018 World Tour . They won the 4-star tournament in The Hague and came fifth at the World Tour Final in Hamburg .
