Toms Šmēdiņš (born April 25, 1986 in Ventspils ) is a Latvian beach volleyball player .

Career

In 2002, Šmēdiņš finished fifth with Artis Caics at the U18 World Cup in Xylokastro . With his brother Jānis Šmēdiņš he entered the same competition in Pattaya the next year . In 2004 he reached the final of the Junior World Championships in Porto Santo with Valters Ramma . In St. Petersburg , the Šmēdiņš brothers played their first joint open tournament in 2005 and now formed a permanent couple that came fourth at the 2006 World Cup in Mysłowice . In 2008 they parted ways again and Toms played the last tournaments of the year with Mārtiņš Pļaviņš . At the beginning of the year he competed with Caics in Novi Sad and won the Challenger tournament. After a third place in Varna , he had two more appearances with Pļaviņš before continuing his career with Caics in 2010. At the 2010 European Championships in Berlin, the two Latvians lost to their compatriots Samoilovs / Sorokins in the preliminary round and were eliminated as the bottom of the group. In 2011 they did not get beyond the preliminary round at the European Championships in Kristiansand .

In 2012 Toms Šmēdiņš played with Edgars Točs and in 2013 with Ruslans Sorokins . At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki, Šmēdiņš / Sorokins retired after the preliminary round despite a victory over the Dutch Spijkers / Varenhorst . In 2014, Jānis Pēda Šmēdiņš was initially a new partner. At the EM in Quartu Sant'Elena, Šmēdiņš / Pēda were eliminated without a win after the preliminary round. Subsequently, Šmēdiņš played with Viktors Koržeņevičs and in late 2015 again with Ruslans Sorokins. In 2016 and 2017 he played alongside Aleksandrs Solovejs . Haralds Regža has been Šmēdiņš 'partner since 2018 .
