Daan Spijkers (born March 6, 1987 in Tilburg ) is a Dutch beach volleyball player .

Career

Between 2004 and 2006, Spijkers played with various partners at junior world championships. From 2007 he formed a duo with Niels van de Sande , but just like in 2010 with Jon Stiekema, he was only able to achieve top placings in second-rate tournaments. That changed at the Kristiansand Open 2010 when he finished ninth in his first appearance with Emiel Boersma . The duo also achieved fourth place in The Hague and won the Continental Cup tournament in Montpellier . In 2011 Boersma / Spijkers were eliminated from the European Championships in Kristiansand in the round of 16 against the Germans Klemperer / Koreng . They then finished fifth at the The Hague Open. They achieved the same result at the Grand Slams in Shanghai and Beijing in 2012 . At the European Championships in Scheveningen they reached the knockout round in front of their home crowd as second behind Klemperer / Koreng. There they prevailed against the Austrians Müllner / Wutzl and in the round of 16 against the Germans Erdmann / Matysik . They then defeated Numbersdor / Schuil in the national duel . With a 2: 1 in the semifinals against Skarlund / Spinnangr from Norway, they reached the final, which they lost against the defending champions Brink / Reckermann . After the European Championship, Boersma / Spijkers finished fifth in the Berlin Grand Slam before they parted ways a little later.

In 2013 Spijkers formed a new duo with Steven van de Velde . Spijkers / van de Velde took 17th and 25th place at the Fuzhou Open and the Grand Slam in Shanghai. Spijkers also played with Christiaan Varenhorst on an interim basis in 2013 because his standard partner Jon Stiekema was injured. Spijkers / Varenhorst reached 17th place at the 2013 World Cup in Stare Jabłonki . From July 2013 to August 2014 Spijkers played alongside Michiel van Dorsten . In 2015/16 Tim Oude Elferink was his partner.
