Palestine took part inthe 2012 Olympic Games in London . It was the fifth overall participation in the Summer Olympics. The Palestine Olympic Committee nominated five athletes in three sports, including representatives from the West Bank and Jerusalem , the Gaza Strip and a Palestinian refugee livingin Cairo . Due to the movementrestrictions imposed on the Palestinian populationby the Israeli occupying power, the team was only able tomeet for the first timeafter arriving in London at Heathrow Airport .

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was Judoka Maher Abu Rmilah .
