Ryan Brathwaite (born June 6, 1988 in Bridgetown ) is a Barbadian hurdler who specializes in the 110-meter distance . He was world champion in 2009.

In 2005 he won silver at the World Youth Championships in Marrakech .

In 2007 he was fourth at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro and reached the semi- finals at the World Athletics Championships in Osaka . He also made it to the penultimate round at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

In 2009 he won silver at the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships. Shortly afterwards he celebrated the greatest success of his career to date when he won the World Championships in Berlin . He set a personal best with 13.14 s and beat the Americans Terrence Trammell and David Payne in second and third by just 0.01 s. At the same time, Brathwaite became the first track and field athlete in history to win a medal for Barbados at world championships.

In 2010, Brathwaite won the Central American and Caribbean Games . At the 2011 World Cup in Daegu, Brathwaite was eliminated in advance. In 2012 he finished fifth at the Olympic Games in London , and in 2013 he reached the semi-finals at the World Cup in Moscow .

He finished fifth at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
