Bryshon Nellum

Bryshon Nellum (born May 1, 1989 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

In 2007 he became the Pan-American Junior Champion. In 2009 he, now a student at the University of Southern California , was shot three times in the legs during a drive-by shoot . The gunshot wounds had to be treated with three surgeries, and the doctors gave him no hope of returning to the top of the world. However, with patience and tenacity, he managed to finish third in the US eliminations for the London Olympics in 2012 . In the individual competition he reached the semifinals, in the 4-by-400-meter relay he won bronze with the US team, and for the closing ceremony he was voted flag bearer by the US team's athletes.

In 2013, he became an NCAA Master in his senior year at the university . In 2015 he won the gold medal with the US relay at the World Championships in Beijing .
