Hesham Mesbah
Hesham Hasan Mesbah ( Arabic هشام مصباح, DMG Hišām Miṣbāḥ ; * March 17, 1982 in Alexandria ) is a former Egyptian judoka who won an Olympic bronze medal in 2008.
Athletic career
The 1.76 m tall Hesham Mesbah fought in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 90 kilograms. In 2001 and 2002 he received a bronze medal at the African Championships. In 2004 in Tunis he won the title at the African Championships for the first time. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he was eliminated in his second fight against the Canadian Keith Morgan .
At the African Championships 2005 he was defeated in the final to the Algerian Khaled Meddah . Shortly afterwards he was defeated in the final of the Mediterranean Games in Almería to the Greek Ilias Iliadis . At the 2005 World Championships in Cairo, he lost in the quarter-finals to Belarusian Andrej Kasussjonak . With two wins in the round of hope Mesbah reached the battle for the bronze medal, which he lost against the Dutchman Mark Huizinga . 2006 Mesbah won the final of the African Championships against the Moroccan Mohamed El Assri . A year later Mesbah won the final at the Africa Games 2007 against the Algerian Amar Benikhlef . At the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro , he won three fights and then lost to the Greek Ilias Iliadis in the quarterfinals. After two wins in the Hope Round, he lost the battle for a bronze medal against the Italian Roberto Meloni . In 2008 Mesbah met Amar Benikhlef in the final of the African Championships in Agadir, this time Benikhlef won.
At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , Hesham Mesbah defeated the South Korean Choi Sun-ho in the first round with a coca rating. In the second round he was defeated by the Georgian Irakli Zirekidze by a penalty. Mesbah secured a bronze medal with victories in the round of hope over Elxan Məmmədov from Azerbaijan, the Belarusian Andrej Kasussjonak and the French Yves-Matthieu Dafreville .
In 2009 Mesbah won the African Championships. At the World Championships in Rotterdam he was defeated in the semifinals to the South Korean Lee Kyu-won , in the battle for bronze he defeated the Slovak Milan Randl . 2011 Mesbah reached only fifth place at the African Championships. In the final of the African Games 2011 in Maputo, he defeated the Algerian Lyes Bouyacoub . In 2012 the Egyptian won the African Championships again. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he was defeated in the first round by Kazak Timur Bolat .
