Hansle Parchment (born June 17, 1990 in Saint Thomas Parish ) is a Jamaican hurdler who specializes in the 110-meter hurdles .

Career

Hansle Parchment gained his first international experience at the Youth World Championships 2007 in Ostrava , where he reached the semi-finals, in which he finished fifth with a time of 14.13 s. In 2010 he finished fifth at the Central America and Caribbean Games in Mayagüez in 13.97 s, as well as at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 13.71 s. In 2011 he won the bronze medal at the CAC Championships in Mayagüez with the Jamaican 4 x 100 meter relay and was disqualified over the hurdles in the final. He then won the gold medal at the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen in 13.24 seconds.

At the Jamaican Olympic Trials in June 2012, he qualified as a winner for participation in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London . There he reached the final over the 110 meter hurdles and won the bronze medal in third place - this was the first ever Olympic medal for Jamaica in the 110 meter hurdles. In the final run, he also set a new Jamaican record in this discipline by increasing his personal best time again to 13.12 seconds.

On June 1, 2013 Parchment won in Eugene with 13.05 s. With this he not only set a new personal best and world annual best, but also undercut his own Jamaican national record. He then took part in the World Championships in Moscow and reached the semi-finals there. He further improved his national record in Paris in 2014 to 12.94 s and is 12th (as of 2018). At the World Championships in Beijing , he won the silver medal behind Russian Sergei Schubenkow in 13.03 s in the final .

Two years later he qualified again for the World Championships in London, where he finished eighth with 13.37 s in the final . In April 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the second time and won the silver medal there in 13.22 seconds behind his compatriot Ronald Levy .

Parchment studied psychology at the University of the West Indies at Kingston . In 2012 he became the Jamaican champion in the 110-meter hurdles.
