Daniel Everton Bailey (born September 9, 1986 ) is a sprinter from Antigua and Barbuda who specializes in the 100-meter run . He carried the flag of his country at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens .

Career

Bailey represented Antigua and Barbuda at the 2004 Summer Olympics, the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing . In Beijing, he finished second in the 100 meter sprint, just four hundredths of a second behind Usain Bolt , in a time of 10.24 s. In the next lap he achieved a time of 10.23 s. However, he did not qualify for the semifinals, as he was fourth behind Asafa Powell , Walter Dix and Derrick Atkins .

Bailey started the 2009 athletics season with his personal best of 10.02 s and a strong 9.93 s over 100 meters in early May. At the 2009 World Championships , Bailey hit the headlines when he and Bolt grinned at each other in an intermediate run, even though the finish line had not yet been crossed. Both belong to the same training group in Jamaica. Bailey reached the finals at the World Championships, finishing fourth in 9.93 s.

At the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha, Bailey won the bronze medal in the 60-meter run in 6.57 s . On August 28, he reached fifth place at the 2011 World Athletics Championships with 10.26 s.

Daniel Bailey is 1.79 m tall and has a competition weight of 68 kg.
