Freydís Halla Einarsdóttir (born October 3, 1994 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic ski racer . The multiple Icelandic champion and World Cup participant specializes in the technical disciplines of giant slalom and slalom and represented her country at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .

biography

Freydís Halla Einarsdóttir comes from Garðabær on the southwest coast of Iceland. She started skiing at the age of eight. Freydís studies exercise and exercise physiology at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire . She mainly trains in Waterville Valley and was the first university athlete to qualify for the NCAA ski races .

At the age of 15 she competed in her first FIS races in Garmisch . In February 2011 she took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Liberec and finished 26th and 40th in slalom and giant slalom. She competed three times at Junior World Championships , with her best results with ranks 37 and 39 when she first competed in Crans-Montana in 2011 . In four other races in Roccaraso 2012 and Jasná 2014 she was eliminated.

In February 2013 Freydís represented Iceland at the World Championships in Schladming , but failed with rank 54 in the giant slalom to qualify for the second round. In the coming winters she started almost exclusively at the FIS level and also celebrated a few victories. At her second World Championships in Vail , she contested both technical races and finished 51st (slalom) and 58th (giant slalom). In the slalom, she missed qualifying for the second run by 0.53 seconds. In the 2015/16 season she made her debut in the Nor-Am Cup and won both Icelandic championship titles for the first time in Akureyri . She finished the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz with 47th place in the giant slalom, her best result at a major event so far. At her first Olympic Games in Pyeongchang , she led the five-man Icelandic squad as the flag-bearer and achieved the best team result with 41st place in the slalom. In the giant slalom she was eliminated.
