Euphorbia aequoris is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia aequoris arises from a tuberous root and grows as a small shrub up to 22 centimeters in height. The subterranean shoot branches out above the ground and forms a dense eyrie with a diameter of up to 15 centimeters. The opposite or forked branches reach 4 millimeters in diameter. The other branches have internodes 4 to 12 millimeters long . The spatulate leaves are up to 1.5 millimeters in size and are only short-lived.
The inflorescence consists of single, simple and almost sedentary cymes . The bracts resemble the leaves. The cyathia are up to 2 millimeters in diameter and the elliptical nectar glands touch each other. The bluntly lobed fruit reaches 4 millimeters in diameter and stands on a bent back 4 millimeter long stem. The egg-shaped seed is covered with very small wrinkles.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia aequoris is distributed in the south of South Africa in the Eastern Cape Province at altitudes of 1375 meters.
The species was first described in 1915 by Nicholas Edward Brown . A synonym is Tirucallia aequoris (NEBr.) PVHeath (1996).
