Hirschbühl comes from Lauterach in Vorarlberg and starts for SV Riefensberg . After starting in the regional forest squad and winning the Austrian championship in the school class, Hirschbühl was accepted into the state squad by the Vorarlberg Ski Association. In 2007 he took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Jaca . He made his European Cup debut in 2008 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In the following year he was accepted into the ÖSV squad, where he worked his way up to the B squad. After he was no longer taken into account by the ÖSV in 2012 due to poor performance, he achieved two prestigious successes with the national youth championship in giant slalom and victory at the Liechtenstein slalom championships in 2013. In preparation for the 2013/14 season, he tore a cruciate ligament during training . After numerous failures and non-qualifications, he was able to collect European Cup points for the first time in 2015 in the Oberjoch slalom with 23rd place. After a 12th place as the best result, he achieved his first European Cup victory on December 19, 2015 in the City Event on Kronplatz .
World cup
Christian Hirschbühl made his World Cup debut on January 17, 2015 in the Wengen slalom , where he was eliminated in the first round. Further assignments followed at the classics in Kitzbühel and Schladming as well as in Kranjska Gora . At the end of the season, he celebrated his greatest success to date by becoming the Austrian slalom champion . Not least because of this performance, he was accepted back into the B-team by the ÖSV. In October 2015 he competed in a World Cup giant slalom for the first time in Sölden and immediately won points with 22nd place. In the slalom of Kitzbühel, he made it into the top 10 for the first time on January 24th, 2016 with a seventh place. In January 2017, with a fourth place in the slalom in Wengen, he barely missed the podium.
Despite mixed performances in the 2017/18 season - his best result was ninth in the Adelboden slalom - the 27-year-old was added to the squad for the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang . In the giant slalom he was eliminated in the first round before the second intermediate time, he was not nominated for a start in the slalom. At the World Championship 2019 in Åre , he won the silver medal with the Austrian team, but remained without use; in the slalom he finished eleventh. At the beginning of the 2019/20 World Cup season , Hirschbühl was able to maintain the level of the pre- winter. At the beginning of January 2020 he suffered a tendon injury in the groin area while training in Lienz , which resulted in a break of several weeks.
