Weibrecht was born in Lake Placid as the fourth of five children to Lisa and Ed Weibrecht and grew up there. In 2001 he won the slalom and the giant slalom of the Whistler Cup and in 2002 he contested his first FIS races and races in the Nor-Am Cup . In 2003 he took part in the US championships for the first time. After he had mainly competed in slalom and giant slalom at the beginning of his career , he gradually switched to the faster disciplines. In 2005 the first appearances in the European Cup followed .
At the Junior World Championship in 2006 , Weibrecht won the bronze medal in the Super-G. On November 30, 2006 he contested his first race in the World Cup , but never drove into the points in his first season. With three victories in the 2006/07 season he decided the overall standings and the combined standings of the Nor-Am Cup for themselves. On November 29, 2007 he made his breakthrough to the top of the world, with a 14th place in the World Cup Super Combined in Beaver Creek . The following day he achieved tenth place in the downhill, his best World Cup result for a long time. The greatest success of his career to date was at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, when he surprisingly won the bronze medal in the Super-G. In the winter of 2010/2011, Weibrecht was unsuccessful. He had to end the season early after a shoulder injury that he suffered in slalom training at the end of December.
After his forced break, on December 9, 2011, Weibrecht finished tenth in the Super-G at Beaver Creek for the second time in his career and for the first time in four years in a World Cup race among the top ten. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi , like four years ago, he managed a surprise: He won the silver medal in the Super-G behind Kjetil Jansrud . In the 2015/16 season, Weibrecht finally achieved podiums in the World Cup: on December 5, 2015, he finished third in the Super-G of Lake Louise , and on January 22, 2016, he finished second in the Super-G of Kitzbühel .
Due to knee problems, Weibrecht was unable to maintain this level in the following two winters. After he last competed in a World Cup race on March 11, 2018 in Kvitfjell , he announced his retirement from top-class sport on May 3, 2018.
