qualification

Starting places

  • 500/1000/1500 m - 36 women each (40 men each)
  • 3000/5000 m - 28 women / 28 men
  • 5000 / 10,000 m - 16 women / 16 men
  • Team pursuit - 4 teams women / 4 teams men

Each nation was allowed to send a maximum of 20 athletes (10 women / 10 men). If the nation did not start in a team run, the number of starters was reduced to eight athletes each. A maximum of four athletes were allowed to start on the individual 500/1000/1500 meters, three on the 3000/5000/10000 and one team (four athletes) per nation in the team run. The speed skaters had to qualify for the quota places through their performance in the current season. The basis for this was two ranking lists: List 1 listed the athletes according to the World Cup points they had achieved. Four dates were available for this until the registration deadline. List 2 listed all athletes according to the best time in the current season up to the registration deadline. The services had to be provided at separately classified ISU events.

Qualification of the German athletes

In addition to the ISU qualification criteria, the DOSB had national nomination criteria that had to be provided: 1–8 place once or 1–16 place twice were required in order to be able to be sent as an athlete to the Games.
