Vanessa Herzog (* 4. July 1995 in Innsbruck as Vanessa Bittner ) is an Austrian speed skater and inline Speedskaterin .

Career

Herzog holds all Austrian national records in speed skating among the juniors. In 2011 she made her debut at the Junior World Championships, where she finished 17th. A year later, she reached the top ten with ninth place. In the 2012/2013 season she won the overall ranking in the Junior World Cup in both the 500 m and the 1000 m as well as the mass start. At the Junior World Championships 2013 in Klobenstein, she was over 1000 m junior world champion and over 500 m second.

On January 12, 2013 she made her debut at the European Championships in Thialf . In November 2013 in Salt Lake City, she improved the ten-year-old Austrian records held by Emese Hunyady over the distances of 500 and 1000 meters. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 , she took part in the speed skating competitions for Austria , where she finished 27th over 500 m and 24th over 1000 m. After finishing third over 500 m in Stavanger at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, she won her first World Cup victories in Erfurt over 500 m and 1000 m. She also took second place over 500 m there. In January 2018 she won the bronze medal in the mass start, the silver medal over 1000 m and the gold medal over 500 m at the European speed skating championships in Kolomna . At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she was fifth over 1000 m and fourth over 500 m. At the World Cup finals in Minsk she ran twice in second place over 500 m and finally won the overall World Cup over 500 m. She also took sixth place in the overall World Cup. In the 2018/19 season she won three World Cup victories over 500 m and one over 1000 m. In addition, she was second seven times over 500 m and third once over 500 m and 1000 m. In January 2019 she won the gold medal at the European all- around championships in Klobenstein . In inline skating, she won the Austrian State Road Championships in Innsbruck in 2012 over 200 meters, 500 meters and 10,000 meters and in 2013 over 200 and 500 meters. In 2013 she was national champion over 300 and 1000 meters on the track. At the inline speed skating world championships 2018 , her first participation in speed skating world championships, she won bronze over 1000 and gold over 500 meters. Since no inline skating competitions can take place during the COVID-19 restrictions 2020, she wants to compete in national athletics competitions (100 m / 200 m) as a substitute.

Vanessa Herzog married her manager Thomas Herzog, who also looked after Kira Grünberg , on September 16, 2016 in Innsbruck. She lives with him in Carinthia.
