Wang Manli

Wang Manli (born March 7, 1973 in Mudanjiang ) is a former Chinese speed skater on the sprint tracks.

Wang Manli celebrated her first international successes at the Individual Distance Asian Championships in Sapporo in 1994 , where she won silver over 500 m behind Lu Jing and finished fifth over 1000 m. Wang made her first World Cup race in November 1995 over 1500 m in Berlin . In the B group she finished 22nd. In February of the following year she was 17th at the World Sprint World Championships in Heerenveen . In December 1996 the Chinese ran in Muju-Jeonju in the World Cup for the first time in the A group. In the 500 meter race, she finished ninth and thus achieved her first top ten placement. At the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano , she finished 22nd over 500 m and 30th over 1000 m. Wang only had her international breakthrough at the beginning of the 2000s. For example, she was Asian champion over 500 m at the individual distance championships in Harbin 2001. At the distance she was also eighth in the 2000/01 season in the overall World Cup.

In December 2002, Wang came on the podium for the first time in two World Cup races in Nagano as third place over 500 m. She celebrated her first victory in December 2003 in Calgary . At the individual distance world championships in Berlin in 2003, the Chinese won silver behind Monique Garbrecht-Enfeldt , and gold in Soul a year later . In 2004, she won the four-time sprint titles at the national championships in Harbin, over 500 m and 1000 m. A year later the title in the sprint four-way fight was added again. Wang achieved overall World Cup victories over 500 m in 2003/04 and 2004/05. Also in 2005 she celebrated her second title win over 500 m at the individual distance World Championships in Inzell . In 2006 in Heerenveen a silver medal in the sprint four-way fight was added behind Swetlana Schurowa . In 2003 and 2004, Wang narrowly missed a medal in fourth. After the Chinese still disappointed at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City , she won as a co-favorite at the 2006 Games in Turin over 500 m silver behind Shurova. After the 2005/06 season , Wang ended her career in which she won 16 World Cup races.
