Svetlana Sergeevna Schurova , married Chernenko ( Russian Светлана Сергеевна Журова , transliteration Svetlana Sergeevna Žurova ; born January 7, 1972 in Pavlovo , Kirovsk district, Leningrad Oblast ) is a former Russian speed skater .

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , she won the gold medal over 500 meters. On March 30, 2007, she announced the end of her ice skating career. The reasons were an injury that prevented her from practicing her sport in the 2006/07 winter season.

A few days before her resignation, she was elected to the parliament of the Leningrad region . In December 2007 she was elected to the Duma of the Russian Federation as a member of the United Russia party. In Parliament she heads the Commission for Youth, Culture and Sport.

She was the mayor of the mountain village at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.

She has been married to former tennis player Artyom Chernenko since 2003, and the couple have two sons.
