At the XX. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, twelve speed skating competitions were held. The venue was the Oval Lingotto . For the first time, the team pursuit for women and men was on the program.

Joey Cheek achieved the fastest time in both rounds and won clearly ahead of Russian Dmitri Dorofejew . Casey FitzRandolph , the defending champion of Salt Lake City in 2002 , had nothing to do with the outcome of the race in twelfth place.

Eight teams were at the start.

The later gold medalists from Italy took second place behind the Canadian team in the preliminary round. In the quarterfinals, they met the seventh place in the preliminary round, the USA. With a new Olympic record, they distanced the fellow favorites by 47 hundredths of a second. In the semifinals they benefited from a fall in the Dutch team. Before the final there was a run for 7th place between Germany and Japan and a run for 5th place between Russia and the United States. In the B-final, the Netherlands beat Norway and won the bronze medal. In the final, the Italians left the Canadians few chances and won by almost three seconds.

The Italian trio ( Anesi , Fabris , Sanfratello ) ran an Olympic record with 3: 43.64 minutes in the quarter-finals .

Before the final, there was a run for 7th place between Norway and China and a run for 5th place between the Netherlands and the United States. In the B final, the Japanese team was overtaken by the Russian team and thus won the bronze medal early on.

The Canadian trio ( Groves , Nesbitt , Klassen ) ran an Olympic speed skating record with 3: 01.24 minutes in the quarterfinals .
