Dmitri Anatoljewitsch Dorofejew ( Russian Дмитрий Анатольевич Дорофеев ; born November 12, 1976 in Kolomna ) is a Russian speed skater .

biography

Dmitri Dorofejew was born in 1976 in the Soviet Union and grew up with two brothers and two sisters in a suburb of Moscow , where he still lives today. At the age of nine, Dorofejew was discovered at his school by a speed skating coach who introduced him to the sport. The 73.5 kg and 1.73 m tall athlete made his debut in the World Cup on February 22, 1997 at the age of 21 on the Innsbruck open-air track , where he took 15th place over 500 meters.

Dorofejew was able to draw attention to himself for the first time in the 1999/2000 season at the same place, when he won the 500 meter World Cup (victory time 35.74 seconds) from the American Casey FitzRandolph and the Japanese Hiroyasu Shimizu . He was unable to build on this success and took tenth place at the 2002 Sprint World Championships in Seoul and 18th place over 500 meters at the subsequent Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City . At the 2004 Sprint World Championships in Nagano , Dorofejew only came in 31st place, at the event a year later in Salt Lake City, 21st place.

Dorofejew succeeded in jumping back to the top of the world in autumn 2005. In the Olympic season, the athlete who specializes in the 500 and 1000 meter courses succeeded in the World Cups in Turin (1000 m) and Inzell (500 m, 1000 m, 500 m) to achieve four wins and four second places.
