Hiroyasu Shimizu  (born February 27,   1974  in Obihiro  ) is a former Japanese   speed skater  .
At the 1998 Winter Olympics  in Nagano, he won  the gold medal over 500 meters and also the bronze medal over 1000 meters. At the 2002 Winter Olympics  in Salt Lake City  , it was enough to win a silver medal over the 500 meters.
In 2001 he was the first Asian to receive the Oscar Mathisen trophy   .
In the 2012  general election, Shimizu ran for the Hokkaidōer regional party Shintō Daichi-Shinminshu  in the constituency of Hokkaidō 1 against the democratic incumbent Takahiro Yokomichi  .
