Eskil Ervik won the bronze medal at the all-round world championships in Hamar in 1999 and the silver medal at the European championships in Hamar in 2000. In 2006 he again won the silver medal at the European Championships in Hamar.

After he switched to the American coach Peter Mueller, he improved by leaps and bounds. On October 15, 2005, he ran a new outdoor world record over 3,000 m (3: 44.90 min.) In Inzell and on November 15, 2005 he improved the record in Calgary to 3: 37.28 min. Eight days later he also set the world record over 5,000 m in Calgary in a time of 6: 12.19 minutes. However, Chad Hedrick ran faster in the next pair, so that Eskil Ervik's time was not recognized as a world record.

At the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, he finished 10th over 5,000 m and 11th place over 10,000 m. Together with Håvard Bøkko , Mikael Flygind Larsen , Øystein Grødum and Lasse Sætre , he took 4th place in the Pursuit team.

After the 2006/2007 season, Eskil Ervik could no longer qualify for international competitions (World Cup, European Championships, World Championships) due to strong national competition.

Ervik is an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right to Play .
