Stefan Groothuis (born November 23, 1981 in Empe ) is a Dutch speed skater who specializes in distances from 500 to 1500 meters.

Stefan Groothuis debuted in November 2002 at the World Cup of Nagano . To date (March 2013) the multiple Dutch champion (over 1000 and 1500 meters as well as in the sprint four-way fight) ran nine times to first place in a World Cup race. He achieved his best result in the World Cup in 2011/12 , when he won the overall World Cup over 1000 meters for the first time.
Groothuis took part in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. He achieved his best placement with a fourth place over the 1000 meters. At the 2011 World Championships in Inzell , he was third in the 1000 m. His most successful year, however, was 2012, when he won the world championship title at the Sprint World Championships in Calgary in a four -way sprint and at the individual distance World Championships in Heerenveen over 1000 meters.
At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he won the gold medal over 1000 m.
