Kai Verbij (born September 25, 1994 in Leiderdorp ) is a Dutch speed skater .

Career

Verbij had his first international success at the 2012 Junior World Championships in Obihiro . There he won the bronze medal in the all-around competition. In the following year he won the silver medal over 1000 m at the Junior World Championships in Klobenstein . In March 2014 he won the silver medal in the 1500 m and the gold medal in the 1000 m and in the 2 × 500 m run at the Junior World Championships in Bjugn . He made his debut in the speed skating World Cup at the beginning of the 2014/15 season in Obihiro and finished sixth in the B World Cup over 500 m and 12th in the A World Cup over 1000 m. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, he won his first World Cup victory in the team sprint in Calgary . In the further course of the season he came on the podium six times, including another victory in the team sprint at the World Cup finals in Heerenveen . At the Dutch championships in 2016 he was champion in the 2 × 500 m run and sprint all-around and second in the 1000 m.
