European speed skating all-around championship 2017
The 113th European speed skating all-around championship (42nd women) took place in Heerenveen from January 6th to 8th, 2017 . In June 2014, the International Skating Union first announced that the title fights would be awarded to the Polish capital, Warsaw . In August 2015, however, it became known that the title fights were to be moved to Zakopane due to problems at the Tor Stegny ice rink in Warsaw . Poland would have hosted the European all-around championships for the first time. In October 2016, the competition was moved to Heerenveen after the Polish Speed Skating Association withdrew the organization due to problems with the venue.
For the first time, in addition to four fights (500 m, 5,000 m, 1,500 m, 10,000 m), additional sprint fights consisting of two 500 m runs and two 1000 m runs were held. In the all-around European championship, there are four distances each. Each individual distance run was scaled down to 500 meters in seconds and added up. The total gave the total number of points. The eight best women and men after three routes were approved for the last distance. The European champion was won by those who achieved the lowest total number of points after four routes.
