Douwe de Vries (born June 14, 1982 in Hallum ) is a Dutch speed skater .

Career

De Vries made his debut in the Speed ​​Skating World Cup at the beginning of the 2011/12 season in Chelyabinsk . There he took tenth place over 5000 m. Further top ten placements followed. At the World Cup finals in Berlin , he won his first team pursuit and at the end of the season he finished eighth in the overall World Cup over 5000/10000 m. In the 2013/14 season, he mostly started in the B World Cup over the long distances. He came on the podium twice more and was sixth in the overall World Cup over 5000/10000 m at the end of the season. He also won his second World Cup victory in the team pursuit in Berlin and came seventh at the 2014 European all- around championship in Hamar . After her third World Cup victory in Obihiro in the team pursuit at the beginning of the 2014/15 season, he achieved two second and two third places. In February 2015 he won the bronze medal in the 5000 m and the gold medal in the team pursuit at the 2015 World Individual Distance Championships in Heerenveen . The following month he finished sixth at the 2015 World All Around Championships in Calgary . He finished the season in seventh place in the overall World Cup over 5000/10000 m. In the 2015/16 season he reached the top ten four times in the 5000 m World Cup and thus finished seventh in the overall World Cup. He also won the team pursuit twice. At the European all-around championship in Minsk in 2016 , he came in 22nd. In February 2016 he won the gold medal in the team pursuit at the 2016 World Individual Distance Championships in Kolomna, as in the previous year, and also came in ninth place over 5000 m. In the following season he won three World Cup victories in the team pursuit and once achieved third place over 5000 m and once second place in the team pursuit. He achieved sixth place in the overall world cup over 5000/10000 m. At the 2017 World Individual Distance Championships in Gangwon , he won the gold medal in the team pursuit. He also came fourth there over 5000 m.
