Patrick Roest (born December 7, 1995 in Giethoorn ) is a Dutch speed skater .

Career

Roest had his first international successes at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Bjugn . There he won bronze over 1500 m, silver over 5000 m and gold in a small four-way battle. In the following year he won the bronze medal in the 500 m, the silver medal in the 1000 m and 5000 m and the gold medal in the 1500 m in the team pursuit and in the all- around at the Junior World Championships in Warsaw . In December 2015 he started the World Cup for the first time in Inzell and finished 15th in Division B over 1500 m. At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, he won his first World Cup victory in the team pursuit in Harbin . In the further course of the season he came nine times in the top ten in the individual races, including third place over 1500 m in Heerenveen and second place over 1500 m in Stavanger . He also took second place in the team pursuit in Heerenveen. In February 2017 he was sixth over 1500 m at the individual distance world championships in Gangwon . The following month he won the silver medal in the four-way competition at the all- around world championship in Hamar . He finished the season in eighth place in the 5000/10000 m World Cup and third in the 1500 m World Cup. The following year he won the bronze medal in the team pursuit and the silver medal in the 1500 m at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and the gold medal at the all- around world championships in Amsterdam .

In the 2018/19 season, Roest won the World Cup twice over 5000 m and once in the team pursuit. He also took second and twice third place over 1500 m and second and third place each over 5000 m. He reached fourth place in the overall World Cup over 5000/10000 m. At the European all-around championship in January 2019 in Klobenstein , he won the silver medal in the four-way fight. At the individual distance world championships in 2019 in Inzell , he won the silver medal over 5000 m and 10000 m. He also came seventh there over 1500 m. In early March 2019, he won the gold medal at the All-Around World Championship in Calgary .

Roest has been leading the nobility calendar since March 2019 with a best performance of 144,690 points.
