Flaim was all around world champion in Alma-Ata in 1988 . At the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary , he won the silver medal over 1,500 meters.

The American led the nobility calendar from 1988 to 1992 for 1494 days. Its maximum score was 157.340 points.

At the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer , Flaim won silver with the US team in the 5000 meter relay in the short track.
