Sten Einar Stensen (born December 18, 1947 in Drammen ) is a former Norwegian speed skater .

Stensen became all- around world champion in Inzell in 1974 . In 1973 and 1976 he won the silver medal at the all- around world championships and in 1977 the bronze medal. He also won the 1975 European all- around championship .

At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , he became Olympic champion over 5000 meters and won the silver medal over 10000 meters . Four years earlier at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , he had already won bronze over these distances.

In 1976, Stensen twice improved the world record over 10,000 meters. In 1974 he won the Morgenbladet gold medal and in 1976 the Fearnleys olympiske ærespris . In 1974 and 1976 he was also honored with the Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy .

After the end of his career as a speed skater in 1978, he became a commentator for the Norwegian radio at speed skating competitions.
