Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 1959 the Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy , also known as the Ice Oscar , was donated. It is awarded in the form of a statue in memory of the legendary speed skater Oscar Mathisen from the Oslo Skoiteklubb .

The winner will be based on the results in international events Olympic Games , World Championships, European Championships, when they are in the evaluation period, the World Cup , all other international races on Norwegian soil and sometimes all international matches elected with Norwegian participation.

Until 1967, the prize could only be given once to one athlete, which is why some outstanding achievements had to remain unappreciated. Women were not allowed to be elected until 1987. The record winner is Eric Heiden , who won four times in a row from 1977 to 1980, ahead of Ard Schenk (1970 to 1972), Johann Olav Koss (1990, 1991, 1994) and Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann as the best woman (1995 to 1997).
