Fred Anton Maier (born December 15, 1938 in Tømmerholt , island of Nøtterøy , † June 9, 2015 in Nøtterøy) was a Norwegian speed skater .

At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , Maier won the bronze medal over 5000 meters and the silver medal over 10,000 meters. In 1968 he became Olympic champion over 5000 meters at the Olympic Games in Grenoble and again won the silver medal over 10,000 meters. In the same year he was also world and European champion in all around .

Between 1965 and 1968 Maier set a total of eleven world records . Its maximum value in the nobility calendar was 173.518 points; his best placement was second. He was awarded the Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy in 1968 . He also won the election for Norway's Sportsman of the Year .

Maier was also a successful cyclist . In 1957 and 1967 he was third in the Norwegian national time trial championships .
